How to measure vision?

Comment mesurer la vision ?

Distance vision is measured by having the patient read characters on a board or screen positioned approximately 5 metres away. Visual acuity is measured in tenths.

The best visual acuity in visually normal subjects is considered to be 10 tenths (10/10).

Visual acuity varies according to the degree of myopia, hyperopia, astigmatism, and presbyopia.

However, it is possible to have visual acuity limited to 5/10, for example, even without myopia or with the best possible glasses, due to an anomaly in the camera that is the eye, whether it involves a disease of the lenses — namely the cornea or the crystalline lens (cataract…), of the photographic film that is the retina (macular degeneration, diabetes, myopic choroidosis, etc…), or of the "electrical cord" connecting the eye to the brain, the optic nerve (optic neuropathy…).
